Default failed.

alright guys a friend of mine has an obo b16 in his crx. he has a bone stock motor with just a cai and he failed his smog check..we know the guy so he smogged it for us but he said he cant do anything about the readings..it pasted everything but it just failed the CO part and it was like trippled the limit...heres my question. we did the timing cause it was 26 advanced and we we retarded it to 16 but also he has a chipped ecu with the mugen program. would that be a factor cause we just came across a stock ecu that we could use. thanks any input would be appreciated

i would assume that a stock ECU would be better for smog purposes versus a chipped one.

yea i kinda assumed that but triple the limit? that doesnt sound right so i was thinking maybe the timing and ecu would do the trick

how's the catalytic convertor? i know faulty ones mess up the readings big time.

then why is he running a 'mugen' chipped ecu? a stock ecu/rom would be better for every conceivable situation including smog. Try unplugging injector #3 with a stock b16 ecu or stock b16 rom on a chip in that ecu, and limp through on 3 cylinders.

yep, my old roomate did it with his b16 swapped ef hatch. car ran like ****, but he passed. He didn't fail quite as badly the first time around though.
