Factory head unit, how good they are?
Has anyone tried installing a good brand amplifier fitted to the stock head unit(Single CD Player) of a 99 EX?
Is it possible? I there an improvement?
Thanks.

I would try spending about $200 on a decent head unit. Go to hookedontronics.com or sonicelectronix.com. You can buy older model cd players band new for really cheap. The head unit is important when trying to make you system sound good.

You can do it with low level imputs, but I wouldn't recommend it. The Civic radios are horrid for sound quality.

You don't actually need any of that with an amp that can use low level imputs (pretty much all of them anymore).
Just hook the remote to the switched power on the headunit, and the low level imputs to the speaker + and - and you can do it.

I use my Stock deck in my Si.....and i have 6x9 Xplods the whole way around as well as one 12" RF sub and is all powered by and Xplod amp. IMO sounds very very good. You cant bass out, but it has great sound quality....i get compliments all the time! An aftermarket deck would make a world of difference but you can absolutely use a stock deck~!

Re: (B18C-Rsi)
it is possible i have done it more than once.
but if you are getting a system any way you should initially try using you stock deck by either using an amp with low level inputs or get an rca adaptor, just to try it out. if you dont like the way it sounds then you can upgrade the deck, but you dont have to if you like it. btw stock deck doesnt attract thieves like an aftermarket deck.

Its what they do. Aftermarket equipment interfaced with stock stereo equipment.
Stock head units dont suck. Stock speakers do suck My friend is the head tech there. He say most factory head units can produce anywhere from 9-12vrms output, more than twice that of your average aftermarket head unit. The part you need is called an "LOC" or more simply, Line-output Converter.

Re: Factory head unit, how good they are? (Civic4ever)
if u want to keep the stock headunit and use an amp with it.....u have to install a Low Input Converter to your speakers to hook up the RCA wires then for the remote wire to the amp you have to tap or whatever a wire to the ignition fuse on the fuse box under the dash(this will turn ur amp on and off)..... and connect ground and positive boom stock head unit with amp and sub or whatever 6x9 6.5
I have a stock headunit with amp and sub connect to a lowinput converter......sounds ok.....i would prefer getting a aftermarket headunit...but i live in SoCal and i dont wanna get my sounds jack.....
