extreme lag in first gear.. belts or tranny?
lately when i start my car and start to drive away, i'll give it gas but you can't hear the intake as much as you should, and my exhaust makes a noise like there are tiny metal scraps in the pipes. after about 3 seconds whatever the problem is goes away and the car jumps forward as if the gear just caught and for the rest of the drive it seems to be ok for the most part. is this a slipping transmission or just my belts?

Sounds like your convertor has rattled its guts loose and maybe while driving it passes whatever was loose. My convertor had rattled everything loose and when taking off you heard that "metal" sound you're talking about. You have to be careful though because your exhaust could get clogged and cause serious danger to your engine. Also all this could happen without throwing a check engine light. Mine never did but thankfully I replaced it before it did any damage.
