Extreme car troubles
k well, i was doing donuts in my work parking lot on a gravel road when all of sudden my car went out of gear. i went to put it back in first, and it wouldnt move. it sounded like i was in neutral. then i took my foot of the clutch, and i was able to put it into gear without hitting the clutch. then when i tried hitting the gas, i heard a lil rattle. i looked under my hood and i couldnt tell. Also, my CV joints were messed up before this but they are still connected when i looked under my hood. and i thought that my CV joints wouldnt have anything to do with what is happening.
i have a b18 LS engine in a 98 civic ex
plz help me.

double check your shafts.. make sure that thier all the way in the tranny.. even if one side is partially out of the differentail it'll cause you problems.. another thing would probably be sumthing inside ur tranny.. a bent synchro. or sumthing..

Re: (DaX)
no i dont think its that bc i just got a new clutch about 6 months ago and i forgot to say i auto crossed my car last weekend and my clutch was really nice and right and strong so i dont think its the disc.
i was thinking maybe its the pressure valve in the clutch?

Re: (hellshock2182)
So you can slide the shifter in and out of first, with no clutch; almost as if the clutch were down? And when it's in the position it acts like it's in neutral?
If this is the case, something mechanical that puts the car into gear is broken. I'd check the shift linkage first, then go for the clutch and TO, then check the forks.

Re: (EX_AutoXer)
yea it shifts in and out of gear with my car on perfectly and when i hit the gas when its in gear, it just runs up the motor but i can hear a rattle when i do that
and btw, i just brought it to a garage and when i was showing them the car goes into gear when the car is on, a loud pop happened. wtf was that
at the garage they said it sounds like the CV joints but they popped the hood and the joints seemed in from our perspective but who knows
anyone know what that pop could ahve been though it was like a half pop half crack kinda noise

Yeah, because you broke something.

Shouldn't the mechanics know? If not, bring it to another shop to let them figure it out. How did you get it to a shop anyway? You made it sound like it wouldn't be driveable since it just revs when in gear.

UPDATE: the garage called me and told me CV joint popped out and broke my axel. i guess its better than it being the transmission or clutch. only gonna be around $130.00
