Default Experiance needed

I have a buddy who works with a dude who is selling me a LS/GSR-Vtec long block(No tranny, engine harness, or Ecu) for $200. Is this a good deal?
My goals are to buy an Ls/Non-Vtec and boost it. My goal im looking for is 300whp+.

Money is an issue,($5,000) to buy Complete engine and turbo kit, with tunning at modern garage. Is this enough money?

What is a better bang for the buck?
LS/Vtec Turbo
or
LS Turbo

I know dyno tunning is expensive and I don't want to spend alot on figuring vtec and turbo. But maybe im wrong.

Help H-T'ers this **** has been eating my brain deciding. I need Info. Im not asking how to spend my money. Just asking for help so I don't walk down the wrong road.

Thanks for reading this, and if you help me out. I'll be extremely grateful!

Maybe, if your very careful about getting parts that work and don't cost a ton. I'd spend the money on the turbo setup rather than the LS/VTEC setup, just my $.02

LS Turbo

Don't just take my word for it, do some searching and see what other are doing then decide the path you want to prusue.

200 is a great deal for an lsvtec, the gsr head alone is worth at least 400...just make sure the motor is ok.

ls turbo will be the best bang for the buch. a stock ls motor with a turbo on 8-10 psi could get u 12's

What exactly is in the LS/VTEC? and how many miles? Something has to be up for that price, make sure it pulls before they pull it and buy it, also do a compression and leak down test.

Depending on whats in the LS/VTEC you could buy that and just boost it and be good. GSR head is very good for boost.

I say go N/A LS/VTEC. Lots of potential using the right parts. Should be quick enough to run high 12s in the 1/4 with the right parts.

$200 bucks for a LSvtec longblock? Something is wrong with it....period. Could be stolen, could have had the pistons tango with the valves, who knows.

well i found out i have been lied to and its a b18a but its ok, i think i have decided to spend six grand on alot of ****.

Rota gt3's, CF 1X1 Weave Hood, CF Duckbill, CF Hatch, Tein SS Coil-over kit, Stock B18b(The one from Hmotorsonline.com), GSR Head, and Zex Nitrous system.

Pretty the old car up a bit, just run some Ls/Vtec for awhile. do the all motor thing. then after I pay my loan off in 3 years ill take out another and turbo the beotch. sounds like a good idea, Right?

unless anything goes wrong with the car and you are stuck paying off the note and have to pony up for a new engine...a very real possibility giving the three years and nitrous on the motor. My .02 is to leave the Nitrous completely out of the equation for now. Use the cash to buy a new t-belt, seals, waterpump, yadda yadda since it will be on borrowed cash it needs to last right? Hondata can net you more useable HP all the time as opposed to a 50 shot also. It will also be there to help you properly and safely run your Nitrous once you decide to add it in later.

There is something wrong with it OR its stolen. Theres no way that can be a good deal (legit anyway).
I paid $100 for an ls short block w/ 42,xxx miles and thats an extremely good deal.
If I were you..Id think about that.

Whoops - just read b18a.
Which doesnt really matter since its the a's head that sucks, not the bottom

well i finally got my head straight. i'm buying a complete 98 b18b swap with about 35,000 miles on it for 1500. and a drag3 turbo kit for 1900. both for 3200 shipped. im only going to take out 4000. i need some wheels and tires. this is my final decision. unless someone out there thinks this is a bad idea. getting it tunned at modern garage. I hear they are putting out 802WHP LS/Vtec/Turbo civics(Cortney Green keep up the good work Modern Garage)

thanks guys for the suport on not getting F'ed or doing the wrong ****
