It really depends on the material your using. If you use Mild Steel like most muffler shops then theyll use mig. SSL can be welded with mig as well with the right wire spool. And aluminum would be best with tig.

thank you guys, my bro has a welding machine i think its a tig welder, but anyways, just wanted to make sure cuz i have an apexi worldsport i have to cut some piping off of to make it look better from the back, cuz it sticks out about 3inches out from the lowest point on my bumper, looks like a bag of ***.

Tig is cool and everything....
But for a mild steel catback, mig is more than adequate..
Go find some tubing to practice on and make sure you get your heat and wire speed right..
make sure the edges of of what you are welding fit together perfectly. You most likely will not be able to fill any gap without blowing through..
