Default Exhaust Scorch marks + melting bumper

Hey, I just had a quick question...

I installed my exahust on my car a few months ago, and everything went well. However, the exhaust comes juuuust short of totally clearing the rear bumper and it is a little high as well. Now, it leaves these scorch/black carbon marks around where the outlet is, and it is starting to melt a little bit of my brand new bumper!!! (it did it a little to the old one too)

I put new rubber hangers in when installing the exhaust.

I just wanted some ideas as to:
1.) lower the exhaust just a little more
2.) somehow extend it so it clears the rear bumper

I was thinking maybe putting an extra donut gasket thing in the rear section... but I don't know if that would work or be effective... and I am not sure as far as lowering it.

Anything cheap and effective is cool with me!

mine did that to my rear lip. The only thing you can really do is maybe try that donut thing in between the gaskets in the axelback.

Yea man, I don't want to jack up my new bumper yo!

I just came back from pepboys, and they have a 'universal' exhaust hanger, that has a lot of holes to choose from to mount..

It looks something like that...
But, my concern with this thing is that it isnt solid like the rubber mount, so this might allow the exhaust to shake more and vibrate worse... I am still stumped for extending the exhaust though... any suggestions??

i believe there is something you can get that sprays onto your bumper and protects it.

Hmmm... any idea what this stuff is called? I guess this might work, but for the time being, but I would ideally like to get the muffler out of the way so the heat doesn't melt it and it doesn't leave nice fart marks all over

You can always get one of those "cool" "JDM" metal plates that protects your bumper from just such occurances.

Thought you all might enjoy a laugh at my expense...

I have a big half-circle scorch mark (now scar) on the side of my right calf, where I made very brief contact with the exhuast tip while leaning into the trunk!

What kind of exhaust is it? Sounds like you got the wrong one if it doesn't fit right.

Goo gone should remove the black marks. As for the future, thos "GayDM" plates which I've only seen on EK's would be a good idea or the universal hanger thing.

Yea, it's made for my car, but I guess it just isn't a perfect fit...

Yea, I can get rid of the marks, its just that I don't want them there in the first place! (and the melting kinda sucks too!)

If you want to lower the muffler, stick something in the hole of those black rubber hangers near your muffler. Then secure it with zip-ties ... VERY TIGHTLY. I did this, and it worked great for the two years I used it. I used teflon spacers, but you can also use PVC piping. Chop whatever you choose to the proper length to lower the muffler as low as you want. I cut my spacers to 1.5" each, so the muffler was effectively lowered 1.5".

Cool, I'm going to try that... hopefully I can lower it enough so that it doesn't leave marks, and I won't have to deal with 'extending' it

Good luck. Hope you enjoyed the pic I sent you through PM. When I had a bodykit, my A'PEXi N1 burned the **** out of the rear bumper. Doing what I told you to do dropped it down 1.5", and it worked great for the two years I had the bodykit ... no problems whatsoever. Just make sure to really tighten the zip-ties. Mine were so tight that when I removed the zip-ties, they left marks in the rubber hangers, which are still visible about a year afterwards. Good luck.
