Re: Exhaust rattling noise (AllShowNoGo)
i dont think the rattling is coming from the cat nor the heat shield...because the noise is coming from the rear of the car

Re: Exhaust rattling noise (watacivic)
there's a dust/heat shield on top of the muffler itself on a stock exhaust. I had the very same problem, because it rusted loose on 3 corners and was held on to only one, I didn't wanna take off the whole exhaust and remove it so I just went to an auto parts store, muffler repair section, and bought a kit that had a long flat roll of sheet metal with holes in it. There's a screw that comes with the kit that bolts through the holes, to tighten up and hold that dang dust shield in place. It works kinda like a zip tie, but it's metal and uses a screw/nut. Good luck, if that's your case too.

Re: Exhaust rattling noise (SuperMan19)
Is this a stock or aftermarket exhaust?
If aftermarket: Sometimes the fitment sucks and you could have pulled/streched the B Pipe next to the Heat Shield.
If stock: Most likely Catalytic Converter or Muffler replacement time.
Check you hangers too. I've seen hangers break off before and cause rattles. And make sure your rear section (axel back) isn't resting on anything.
Just a few things to start with.

If it's your heatshield take a close hanger cut off the hook part and wrap it around the heat shield nice and tight When the noise come back throw another hanger on.

Re: Exhaust rattling noise (watacivic)
its probably your muffler hitting the bottom of your car. my eg with honda civic ex b pipe and a 96 hatch muffler makes noise back there.
