Re: exhaust note suddenly changed (dingy)
how about you make sure its not just an exhaust leak instead of starting to tear stuff down and do compression checks, etc.
go drive the car. if it feels normal just louder its probably a leak near the head/manifold

If the car is running, power wise the same, I will put $$$$ that you have an exhaust leak. Sounds like rusted exhaust piping finally gave out.

Your car would be hardly running if you are on 3 cylinders. Wait, you have a SOHC, won't notice much of a difference.
Why not go and look under your car right now?

you mean does the idle drop so low that it shutters about to stall? nah not really
might vibrate a lil more then usual though.

Trust me, if your on 3 cylinders, you can tell a power difference. Theoretically, 25% loss in power, and very rough, your engine is not making power at constant invervals.

Re: (Br1anPham)
Have you found your exhaust leak yet? If you car is idling rough you could have a cracked/broken motor mount, as well. I'm still curious to see what the cause of this is, keep us posted.

Re: (sicky)
if you're gonna spend the time messing around under the hood , why dont you just stick ur ear under the car and listen for a leak. it's not that hard.

Yep its perfectly safe. and if you can put it up on ramps or a lift and listen for anything that sounds out of place. *ie exhaust leak.
After whats been said if you don't notice that the car is running hard/differently its an exhaust leak. running on three cylinders is quite noticeable as you will see.
