Default Exhaust Issue - Sorta

I've got a D16Y7. Car is bone stock. 96 del sol S

Someone made a really *nice* offer for my stock exhaust system (as far as what all he wants - I'm not sure yet, but if I don't take his offer, me = idiot)

So I've got till this weekend, to find a nice replacement exhaust system.

Anyone have any recomendations?

Loud = Bad, I absolutley cannot have an annoying loud exhaust, as I have stuck up douche bags for neighbors that like to bitch alot.

Any help / opinions is VERY appreciated

Its tricky, cause with Y7's, your cat is on your header, whereas most other civics have them after the header, grouping the header to B-pipe.

I ran into this problem with mine.

In order to make it work correctly , you would need to invest in d16y8 headers (or any 92-00 D series aftermarket ones) and a 96-00 D16y8 Cat (or any high flow replacment.) This is because as far as i know, no company offers a Cat-Back exhaust for the Dx/LX/ civics 96-00 with the D16y7 motor, only the EX's with the D16Y8. That is as far as i know, maybe some company does, but i have yet to come across one.

Thats the simplest way (without cut/weld modifications) to make an exhaust fit for the D16y7.

Your other option would have to be to have the new Exhaust extended at a muffler shop in order for it to meet the Y7 header flange.

AS for loudness, Keeping both a stock CAT, and having a resonator will keep the noise level down. If you really feel the need, installing a second resonator would quiet it further, making a nice deep tone, eliminating virtually all the raspyness, but usually 1 is fine.
If your looking for quiet, Exhaust canisters, ones such as the E.S tuning oval or Vibrant oval do the job, also full systems such as the RSR exmag, Apexi worldsport(2) , and tanabe medallion have reputations for not being too over powering.

Ouch! More work then I thought ><

Figured I'd be able to pickup a nice aftermarket kit and just slap it on.

I'll have to see what all the guy wants off my exhaust and reply here to see what options I have

Yea, but if you can goto a junkyard and find a stock 96-00 civic EX header and Cat, youd basiclly be set, all you would need is a civic EX catback exhaust. Thats the simplest option.

Here are some sound clips that someone else posted a while back might give you a better idea on what you want

buy yourself a header, and an apexi WS-2 and go to a local exhaust shop to have the rest made. WS-2 on my buddies del sol VTEC without a cat is still really quiet and what you can hear is really nice.

Seems he just wants my muffler, so I won't need to replace the whole system, just need a new muffler.

either sell the muffler and put the cash toward the whole system, or leave it alone. It would be totally pointless to just strap on a fartcan.

X2

Axlebacks on stock piping sound like crap, no matter what you do.
