Hello... I just bought a del Sol VTEC with a bone-stock engine and and am trying to figure out which exhaust system would be best (I've already decided on an Injen cold-air intake and DC 4-2-1 header). I think I've narrowed it down to either Greddy's SP2, EVO2, or Tanabe's Hyper Medallion. I'm most concerned with the best HP/TQ gains and durability, but I'd like to know the differences in sound and visual appeal as well. Any help would be great, and if you have another recommendation (e.g. Skunk2, etc.) I'd appreciate it. Thanx.

custom mandrel bent piping (2.25") with resonator and ES Oval Muffler.

it practically looks stock. your car is n/a so 2.25" is already wider than what you need. the resonator will keep it from being raspy and high pitched. altogether it will sound like more of a growl than a whine noise.

custom pipes with resonator: $300-350
muffler: $100



no need to waste money for a brand name. this is just as good if not better.

i have the skunk 2 on mine....i like it alot, its pretty loud, Im running 2.5 piping all the way from the header wich has a 2.5 collector to my 2.5 test pipe with the 2.5 skunk2 and it had a big difference on my na del sol vtec.

That sounds like it could be a good idea, but my crew has hook-ups with a distributor and we get everything at cost... I'd end up paying about the same amount (or maybe just a little but more) so I'd prefer to get a warranty with it.

Sounds good to me... I should have it smogged next week and then I can plan on replacing the cat. I'm more concerned with how quiet the thing sounds, though; I just got rid of an MR2-Turbo with an Apex'i N1 exhaust and though the it added 15+ HP, it gave me a headache. The del Sol is so quiet I can't even tell it's on, unless I just went deaf.

Basically any aftermarket exhaust system will give you some added hp/tq. It's all about your budget and what you want, sound wise, or have planned for the future.
I went with custom piping, 2.25 straight back from header, cheapo muff. Cost me 3 bills and it does its job. Loud as **** when vtec engages though, but purrs deep low to mid range, gained 14hp in combo w/ headers. good luck

I would go with the greddy EVO 2. Its quiet at idle, love the muffler, and the quality is great.

hyper medallion is quiet with the sleeper look.
Evo2 is moderately loud but not annoying, and good if you plan on going turbo

i have skunk2 on del sol vtec b16a3. sounds awesome+mean but a little loud.
with the silencer in, yes it does get quieter but you lose the oomph sound in the upper rpm band.
be prepared for a very loud daily driver if thats what you are doing.

Right now my setup consists of a DC Sports 4-2-1 header, test pipe, 2.25" catback with an ES Oval muffler. I love the stock look. People who are into Honda's know that it's aftermarket, and the people who aren't... well, they don't. Great for avoiding cops attention. It sounds pretty nice too, and when VTEC engages it's all in the motor, not the exhaust.

i like the hyper medallion myself, but my room mate has a 5zigen on his and its sounds wicked.

5Zigen is the worst exhaust I've ever heard. It has such a horrible buzzing and droning sound to it. I've heard two 5Zigen mufflers on two various b16a setups and they both sounded like ****.

I'd be more than happy to sell you mine in about a month... I gotta pay off the last $1K on my car and then I'll probably get the Greddy SP2. From what I've been hearing, it's fairly quiet, has a nice growl (I had one on my '90 Integra B16) and decent HP gains. Anyway, I live in SoCal so we could probably avoid shipping altogether.
