Exhaust for B20 EG?
Hey guys, I got a stock b20 in my eg and im planning on putting cams and a gsr head on eventually. I was wondering what exhaust you guys think would be best for flow...Right now i have a 2.5 header to a stock cat with 2inch piping to a gsr muffler.....What im stuck between is 3 options.....
1. Go 2 1/4 piping with no cat and my gsr muffler...
2. 2 1/4 piping no cat to a vibrant sleeper muffler...
3. or go 2.5inch piping with high flow cat and a dynomax/raptor muffler....
what do you guys think? I really dont want anything loud, just better flow.

3. cross sectional area of a pipe increases quite a big as you start increasing the diameter. A B20 is big enough to benefit from a bigger exhaust.
Keep your stock catalytic converter. The high flow cats that actually are cats burn out pretty fast because they use cheap catalysts to keep the cost down.

Re: Exhaust for B20 EG?
It will be overkill NOW, but when you put a GSR head on it and cam it, it will need to flow. You don't want to have to go BACK and do a 2.5-3" exhaust after you spend $$ on a 2-1/4", do you?
If you have a B20 with a VTEC head, it's going to need to breath...2.5 is the minimum I'd go. Yeah, it'll get loud compared to the 2" but the 2" pea-shooter exhaust will KILL your power on a B20 VTEC. Depending on your cams, you may be setting VTEC in the stratosphere in order to avoid a huge dip in power at the crossover.
I went from a 60mm Apexi WS2 to a 3" mandrel bent exhaust on my 84.5x89 GSR (basically a 2.0 L) and gained 9 whp and a 13 ft lbs of torque plus was able to drop my VTEC crossover back to a reasonable 5800 RPM (down from 6800 RPM using the WS2). Yeah, it's loud and that sucks. But the car runs the way it's supposed to.

Haven't heard of it, but took a look online. Read the description: "pure performance sound" = LOUD! Not sure how long it'll last...I bet the sound dampening material on it will disintegrate within 6 months. Best spend a little extra for a better muffler.

Quoted from another post::::
Exhaust diameter performance is dependant on how much HP you are making.
You go too big or too small and your performance will suffer.
You need about 1 square inch of cross sectional area per 60hp to the flywheel.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
2-1/4" up to 210HP @ the flywheel (about 180-185 whp)
2-3/8" (60mm) up to 235HP @ the flywheel (about 200-207 whp)
2-1/2" up to 265HP @ the flywheel (about 225-235 whp)
2-3/4" up to 325HP @ the flywheel (about 275-285 whp)
3" big for big HP (Forced Induction: > 275 whp)
</TD></TR></TABLE>
A stock B18C1 puts out about 150whp.. so if you ONLY want bolt ons, 2.25" is perfect. But you should plan the size of your exhaust based on how much HP you hope to have when you are all set and done modifiying your car.

Re: Exhaust for B20 EG?
3 in. end of story.
look in the all motor section. theres dynos of STOCK b16a's with a better overall performance on just adding 3 inch exhausts.
then buy the muffler that floats your boat. maybe a resonator too.

Re: Exhaust for B20 EG?
Ha, buy my brand new Apexi WS2 midsection (2.25" mandrel bent bolt on) and 06 Si muffler (2.25" no welding needed bolts right on). I have some sound clips of it on my car in the ad.
