Default Exaggerating Speedometer.

still running a d15b7 in my eg hatch and just had to finally get some answers about this problem thats been kinda buggin me.

since i got the car the speedometer exaggerates my mph in higher speeds, i've drove side-by-side with friends on the highway and even had gps systems to make sure i wasent losing my mind.

what happens is as im going at any speed up until 50 it seems on cue but as i accelerate into the top speeds i notice that the speedo is anywhere from 1 to 10 mph higher then im actually going.

at 70 mph on the speedo, im actually going 65 mph.
at 80 mph on the speedo, im actually going 72 mph.
at 100 mph on the speedo, im actually going 90 mph and so on.

can it be a sensor or something else im unaware of? thanks for any reply

check you tire size, they might be too small in diameter from what suppose to be OEM, if thats the case they would spin faster and show speed according to wheel revolutions, but because the diameter is smaller your traveled distance is smaller as well.

the good part is that you have less chances of getting a speeding ticket.

i got the car with 17s on it and im am unaware of how putting back my stock steelies on it disrupts my mph reading because the steelies are oem.

could someone have possibly tampered with whatever reads my speed when they put the rims on?

no, you can not tamper anything taking off wheels, was your cluster a swap from acura, also could be not properly installed gauge faces.

this is not uncommon - I actually think most speedos are off that much

don't worry about it

my old cluster without tach showed this same problem and so does my new eg civic cluster w/tach, i doubt completely that its my gauges.

could it be my speed sensor, im not sure since the last time its been replaced.. sensor could be the same the car was built with.. who knows
