is it even possible....?
....to get the crank pulley off? i have been torquing and smacking and swearing for more than an hour now, and it just keeps on slipping. so, guys, i need help getting my crank pulley untorqued..... why? i need to change my timing belt and driver's side mount bracket... i'm using a rubber strap wrench (that is slipping very slightly) and a 2.5' breaker bar...... any advice? thanks in advance.

i wish... motor is sitting on the floor of my garage. would it be easier if i dropped it in the car before changing the belt?

what you need is a longer breaker bar for more leverage and a chain strap wrench. you should be able to rent the wrench from Autozone/Checkers/etc. and maybe more muscle.. do it before you put it back in the car.. it's a lot easier to get the timing on.. good luck.

That or put a screwdriver through a hole in the flywheel.

or you could leave it on and do what Chris said, and stick a flat in the starter hole.

don't use a flat head, use a close ended 14 mm Craftsman
OR, if the tranny is off....here's a very easy way....
pull off flywheel and bolts....put 2 bolts on opposite each other on the crank. Slide a 1x1 piece of angle iron between the 2 and pop the bolt off.
a 450 lbs impact gun couldn't get a pulley off one of my spare short blocks the other day, so I came up with this incredible idea, and it took 2 minutes
