Erratic Fuel Level Reading on Dash Gauge
I get an erratic fuel level reading from the gauge on the dash when I am driving the '92 D15Z1 EG Hatchback. For example, With a half tank of gas the reading will vary upon acceleration by as much as a quarter of a tank lower. Then the reading will eventually, over the course of a minute, return to the initial reading of half full tank.
I would like to have the gauge be accurate, and not worry about running out of gas.
Gas cap or a vent line at fault?
Thanks,

lol, welcome to having an eg!! Its normal, when you go around a hard turn it will drop almost a half a tank on the reading, theres nothing wrong with it except a design flaw.

Hilarious! Thanks. I have gotten used to it now, and I kinda figured it was a EG/EK personality trait.

I don't think it's normal
It happens when ur fuel tank does not hold pressure
And also maybe ur fuel sending unit is bad?
It did it in my EM1 and it's fine after I replaced the fuel sending unit

Re: Erratic Fuel Level Reading on Dash Gauge
Basically:
- hard right turn -or- acceleration/uphill = lower gas reading
- hard left turn = higher gas reading.
I wish this could be fixed, it still gets me after almost 5 years of owning this little car.

This thread made me laugh. The on ramp to the freeway is a big loop going up hill, so at the top when I straighten out I always looks at my gas needle way low. Gets me every time too, but with in a minute it corrects it self....add me to the list!..lol..

This could be one of those "if you own a EG/EK" postings. I love explaining it to friends once in awhile when I get crap for letting my gas go too low. I actually have half a tank response always gets me funny looks.

Interesting that this is a normal and accepted thing. I felt as though it was the sending unit in my initial experience with it. Maybe i'll try replacing it anyways and make a sticky if it fixes it.

I have a brand-new sending unit in mine (for different reasons than described above) and it does the same thing. You can go ahead and replace yours, but I don't think you're going to see any improvement.
