Default which engines will be direct drops for a 2000 ex with a 5spd y8? any D-seriees or specific ones?

I am having trouble because there is so much written about D to B series swaps, that D to D series seem hard to trace. I do not want a B series, it is out of my budget at the moment, but I do need a new engine.

I just need a working engine with about the same hp.
its a daily driver but I plan on making it as nice as I can for the budget I have.

First things first is the engine... what are going to be direct fit drops? what is my best bet? I don't mind $1000 or a little more on the engine alone, but I still gotta pay for the swap and I don't want insane labor charges on a swap that ends up taking them hours to troubleshoot the differences in.

The best I can come up with is D15B, but aren't there enough differences to make the swap a pain? more costs, etc?

I just need to find a decent, readily available, cost efficient, direct drop swap, that is all.

I dont want to have to buy all kinds of new parts or an ECU or whatever else to get it to work, I want as plug and play as possible.

Thanks!

So if you have a 2000 civic ex you should try and find a D16y8 motor as that is what it originally came with. It should be a straight drop in, plug n play.

However, any d16 would fit right on, just make sure the engine is vtec as you got a vtec wiring harness i suppose, plus vtaaaac rulz country boy

you could actually put in any d-series with slightly modifications of stupid things like sensors and **** but yah d16z6 or d16y8 are ur best choices.

@civicjoe: yeah, but y8's arent so easy to find from reputable sources or locally. that was the obvious choice but I exhausted any leads I have on getting one.

@boostedhks: Thanks, that is exactly the info i wanted, which engine is about the same and will be the most compatible with my stock setup. I will see what I can come up with looking for a d16z6.

edit: my y8 is OBD2, correct? d16z6 is OBD-1 right? is that a simple conversion? what problems arise there?

Default FV-QR

Your D16Y8 is OBD2B.

Try looking for one here:
car-part.com

Also check the Honda-Tech MarketPlace.

this is what i was going to say. You have the air injection holes in the Manifold and head. Another option would be to do a mini-me using a y7 block, you can usually find them real cheap

DO NOT DO THAT!!! Stick with the 1.6 The extra .1L isnt worth the headache of that motor. There is WAY more support for the 1.6 and the fact that the 1.7 is very limited unless lots of miney is put into it. Thats why most people K-Swap the 01-05 civics
