Default engine won't turnover, take a stab at it.

My engine won't turnover and its not pulling any codes, the check engine light just stays on. I checked for spark in all 4 cylinders by putting a screw driver in the plug wires and placing it next to the ground and there is NO spark. I also made a test light out of the turn signal and placed the ground wire on the ground for the car battery and touched the positive wire to the distributor casing and the light did not come on so I know that the engine grounds are fine and I have an internal problem. I'm guessing that my ignitor has failed or the coil, does anyone know how to diagnos a failure between the two? I'm leaning more towards the ignitor failure, any comments?

sounds like you may need a distrubtor..

ok this is dumb, but when u took out the spark plug wire, and put a screw driver in there and put it by the frame body (radiator support) or something, basically making ur own spark plug, or you could take out the spark plug and put it in the spark plug wire, have another dude turn over the engine once or twice and see if there is spark......

if you already did taht and determined NO spark.

what engine u have and do you have internal coil or external?

sounds like you need to short your diagnostics plug to get the cel to flash codes. it wont do it on its own.

Yes, I shorted the diagnostic plug and no codes are pulled. The motor has an internal coil. It could be the distributor also. Looks like I'm going to have to put new parts in with trial and error because it could be acouple things unless anyone knows how to diagnos the exact failure.

could be the ignition control module (ICM) or the rotor.
make sure the rotor is on there nicely too. my friend's rotor was unscrewed one day in his EF hatch and was easy fix. just check internals of distributor

always disconnect the battery when messing with the ingnition componets.

not being a smartass, but, if you can do a spark test the engine must be "turning over". therefore, it's cranking but not starting.
has the car been cranked with plug wires removed? this can cause an older coil to arc through the case to ground. check the coil for signs of arcing, carbon tracking, etc. maybe you could borrow a coil from a friend?

If it;s an F or H series motor, the igniters and coils go bad all the time on those.

The shop I work at replaces at least a couple a week on various Accords and Preludes.

here's an update for ya'all.
I replaced the coil, ignitor, main relay and this freakin car still won't start. I'm gonna try a different distributor and ecu in the morning. This is starting to get intersting
