Default Engine Temp needle jumping (to hot?)

So driving around the other day in my Del Sol...I was sitting at a traffic light and all of a sudden my stock engine temp gauge went straight up to the red mark....No dummy lights came on....I started to freak alittle cause it was so random. I figured just to see what would happen, i tured on my heater on full blast and sure enough it brought down the temp back to normal...Then when i started driving the temps stayed normal with the heater off...

So i thought it was a fluke but today waiting in line at another light my temp started up then driving it regulated itself.......even after work i noticed alittle fluxuating..

Bottom line, i have a feeling it might be just the hot summer air in the engine bay thorwing up the temp and maybe just poor ventilation....But rather then worry everytime it jumps up on the guage

What can i check or how should i handle this situation? Anybody ever have this experience.....I have a feeling its nothing with the engine itself i just have a gut feeling its a false reading of something...but what?

Thanks in advance

If everything is working perfect like the fan, no leaks, and has enough coolant....
Take out your thermostat and put it in the stove with hot water and a gauge make sure is opening at 180 degrees of sooner....
