engine temp????
My motor temperature is acting up on my civic. I have a b16 in my ek hatch. Sometimes my temp guage on my cluster is saying my motor is cold. Then sometimes my temp guage says my engine is warm. Even if i drive for like 30 minutes, my engine sometime says its cold. When I try to hit vtec, my vtec dont work either. Then there are those days that my temp guage says my motor is warm and when i hit vtec, it works. What do you guys think is the problem? The thermostat?

Yeah, sounds like your thermostat stuck open. Try replacing it and see if it doesn't fix your problem.
Not sure about Vtec kicking in some days and not others.

Do you get heat when you have the car "warmed up" regardless of what the temp gauge says? If there is no heat then thats a major sign that the thermostat is bad. Correct me if I am mistaken but I don't believe there is any regulation of Vtec from the hot or cold temp of the engine.

Re: engine temp????
ya vtec will only engage when the motor is running at operating temperature. if its not getting the signal from the coolant temp sensor saying its warm vtec wont engage....UNLEESS someone has rigged it themselves which its not smart

i talked to a local shop today, they told me the reason why my vtec doesn't work is because my engine temp is cold, and vtec only engages when the engine as at the right temp. Thanks everyone for your help too!

Re: engine temp????
Vtec will only engage with in three conditions.
1. veh @ operating temp
2. oil pressure @ min
3. vehicle load. (ELD)
sounds like a bad thermo.. replace and flush ur system..
