Engine Swap Thoughts.
Okay so I just recently got my 2000 Civic and it came with a d16. I'm HIGHLY considering an engine swap and I was thinking of a b18 with a b20 head. It was really that or a b18c1 or c5.
Please give feed back on what you think.

Depending on what trim you have i say convert it to obd1 and build the sohc. The cost to build it and make decent power with all new parts, will be about the cost of a nice b swap with some bolt-ons.
p.s- Im all about the d-series.

Why would you put a b20 head on a b18? You really need to do your research and then figure out what you want.

don't put B20 head, its useless.
either straight B18C or B20 block with B16 head, with forged pistons and all. cos the B20 internals don't like high rev and produce little power.

Go K or go home! lol... I'm kidding! If you can, it's a great swap. But, yes the cost is a lot more. B18C1 is a great swap as well.

Re: (big-cat)
You really need to figure out what you can afford and start there. If you can afford a type R B18c5 that is the BEST starting point before going K. They are pricey though but you did say that was an option for you and if it is you should do it. If you can't afford it the b16 is a GREAT motor. It is capable of high revs and if you find a b16a from a del sol vtec then they actually produce the same horsepower as the B18c1's but honda didn't want to boast that and take away from the gsr sales so they underrated that year.
No matter what people say my choices would be betweed the B18c5 or the B16. Gsr motors are 1.8 liter but they are slightly harder to swap in and get to truly work correctly with the secodary butterflies and the backassward intake manifold. If you got a gsr and a skunk 2 manifold go for it but you'd be better off just getting a b16 head to go on a gsr bottom end. It's just easier to not do the C1 swap and stick to the C5 or B16.
My two cents. Im sure others have different opinions.

i kinda agree with you but I think the extra displacement is worth it
USDM b16 160 hp
JDM Sir II b16 170hp
USDM gsr b18c 170 hp
JDM Gsr b18c 180 hp
USDM b18c type r 190 hp
JDM b18c type r 197 hp
JDM motors have a lil more compression and slightly bigger cams which give the bump in HP...AND the 1.8 makes more torque than a B16. If you are going N/A then i would suggest a 1.8 for the tq so u can pull that heavy 2600 lb civic. If u want to turbo or Supercharge it and dont have alot of funds u can go for the B16 (which is about 1/2 the cost of a GSR from hmmotorsonline.com)...There is a big price gap in between the b16 and b18 type r motor
BTW b20 heads and B18a/b (LS) heads are NON VTEC...u can use the block though for more displacement
