Engine swap HELP
ok, so i swaped my hydro locked 94 ex w/d16 for a d15 from a cx 94(i know it sounds silly, just needed a motor). We got it in and hooked everything up. The wiring harness didnt exactly match up. The o2 sensor wire barely reaches and one or two connectors never found a home.
Problems-No fuel pressure, no spark. the only electonis that work are the radio, starter and the annoying beeper, power windows/roof are dead.
new harness?

Re: Engine swap HELP
your engine harness has no effect on the pw and sunroof....you may want to check all your fuses and relays.
Your VTEC harness can work on your non-vtec motor, if you don't mind a few extra plugs hanging around. You will have to convert back to a non-vtec ecu, because if your ecu is trying to find a vtec switch that aint there, it will throw a code, and send your ecu into limp mode.
If you have no fuel pressure, check your relay under your dash...and as for no spark, change your ECU first since you have to do it anyway, and then see if you have spark after.

Re: Engine swap HELP
what harness did you use?
the d15 you speak of (for starters) has the MAP sensor on the firewall of the car. Where as the d16 you took out had it mounted to the throttle body.
So little things like this are gonna cause you a headache. And that's just for starters, as I said.

Re: Engine swap HELP
The guy at the junk yard where i got the motor said the motor would work fine and just drop in. WRONG. i had to extend my intake and my throttle cable. he also said it would run like **** for a few days and it would be only a 5 hp drop.(more like 25) maybe i need the cx harness?

I may be wrong but won't you have to go to a 1 wire 02 sensor? The Z6 has a 4 wire..figured the CX ECU would throw a code..unless you were able to just run a P06 DX(D15B7)ECU. I am not sure..just asking so maybe you can check on that stuff.

as for the motor my d15 has the same map sensor location.(throttle body)

Re: Engine swap HELP
im sure he just wanted a quick sell, so he told you what you wanted to hear....or he doesn't know enough about hondas.
converting from v to non-v is not as simple as drop in. Get a cx or dx ecu, should find one pretty cheap, and try plugging it in...make sure it matches your tranny (auto or manual ecu).

I checked all fuses not sure which relay is pump.(which was working before my car went swimming in backed up storm water thanks to the construction debris)

Re: Engine swap HELP
So I think theres some confusion about which D15 you really have. OP do you have a 5th gen DX engine(D15B7) or the 5th gen CX engine(D15B8)?

Re: Engine swap HELP
The fuel pump relay is a small box by your hood latch under the driver side panel. It's bolted to the body with a 10mm bolt.

Re: Engine swap HELP
VTEC ecu's look for a signal from the vtec solenoid and pressure switch. Since you won't have those, your car will throw a CEL for those two sensors. Unfortunately when those codes are active, they will send your ECU into limp mode. This means you can't rev above 4k, amongst many other problems.
Limp mode is made so that you can safely drive your car to get it fixed....something you don't want to drive around allt he time with.
so, to answer your question. TECHNICALLY, you CAN use it, but why? Sell your p28, and buy a stock non-v ecu.
