engine stall when accelerating
a few weeks ago my civic started to stall mostly when trying to pull out into traffic... I put my foot down to probally half or so throttle and the bips forward a bit then acts like its idling... i have to back off the ease into it a few times then it will take off like everything is fine. It doesnt really do it after i get going though. If it does, it will be when trying to pass and even then it with just kinna hickup a time or to and go.
I just changed plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor, and the fuel filter last year (about 10k ish miles ago) I checked the plugs the other day and they look fine, they were gaped a little far, im guessing just from wear, so i re gapped them and reinstalled.
The only thing that has changed is that, just before this started, i was in a minor accident. Someone backed into me but it wasnt really enough to do much damage. Just the hood and bumper and a slight kink in the core support. So i think thats just a coincident.... or my car is pissed at me >.>

Re: engine stall when accelerating
no CEL and yes it works
I dont have a timing gun and have never used one
I seem to have lost my hanes manual, whats the proper testing prosedure on the TPS and FPR? i didnt see them in the FAQs

Re: engine stall when accelerating
You may be able to rent a timing gun at an auto parts store. There's a diagram for adjusting the ignition timing in the FAQs sticky.
Testing the FPR is done while measuring the fuel pressure, for which a diagram can be found in the FAQs sticky.
The TPS has 3 wires, power, ground, output to ECU. Verify that the TPS receives 5 reference volts from the ECU, and outputs about 0.5V at closed idle and about 4.5V at WOT. There should also be a smooth voltage transition from closed to WOT.

Re: engine stall when accelerating
TPS:
5.01v from ecu
0.49v @ idle
4.45v @ WOT
It looked to change smoothly, but Im using a cheap $15 multi-meter from walmart
I guess ill see if i can pick up a timing gun and fuel pressue guage from oreilly's tomorrow (only autoparts store around without having to drive 25 miles)

Re: engine stall when accelerating
picked up a timing light today, may go out there and check timing tonight, might not... its awfully cold
I when to all the auto parts places and no one has a pressure gauge that will work on that banjo bolt... well autozone had one to "rent" for $200, but i dont have that much cash just laying around. Any suggestions? i remember seeing someone say something about just a little gauge that replaces that bolt and you leave it on there... know where i can get one of those?

Re: engine stall when accelerating
had to take it to a shop to test fuel pressure.... 34psi while running and right after it stalles
it spikes to 45psi (loss of vac pressure), so it looks liek the fuel system is fine...
I tryed to read timing last night but i cant make heads or tails of it... that and the color on the marks are gone

The timing marks on the crank pulley are organized like this:
.....................l l l..................... l.............................
With the service connector jumped and the warm engine idling, the pointer on the lower timing belt cover should align with the middle mark in the group of three.

Re: engine stall when accelerating
Broke down about a mile from home.... I was able to limp to a autoparts store where a friend works.... At that point it stoped getting spark.... Replaced the cap and rotor just to make sure.... Fired right up an no stalling... I feel dumb now... I didn't think about replacing it again after a year
