Engine Rattle, (Video)
A little while ago my car started to make a weird rattle noise, I thought it was one of my axles, but yesterday I was trying to pinpoint it, and found out it was coming from my engine. You hear the noise around 2500rpm. Heres a link to the video

Anybody know what it might be?

pull off your intake arm and open the TB to check if anything is in there...could even be something under the valve cover

Im pretty sure its coming from the head, at idle there is also a ticking noise, as my rpm's increase it gets a little faster then dissapears and then you can hear this rattle noise.
I was thinking about just buying a used head off of here and putting that on for the time being.
Work and school leave me with no time for anything else, including time for my car.

I would do this also, you probably don't here it at higher rpms because it's going to fast and sounds like a constant. Something in there could definitely cause a noise. BTW I don't have sound right now either so I don't know what sounds like. Just trying to help out.

The ticking sound at idle sounds like its coming from the TB, but the rattle is coming from the head. Prob two different things.

Yeah, I would check that first. Some of that rattling sounded pretty deep, are you sure it's coming from the head and not the bearings?

Thats what you get for painting ur valve cover
Nah, im just kidding. Considering how much ur brother beat the **** out of it, as well as the 150k+ miles, i'd say your motor is pretty much toast. It's most likely valve rattle - i'll have to stop by and listen to it to double check - but valve rattle has a distinct noise.
But like philosofy1 said, your valve springs could be loose causing the retainer and valve to rattle. A set of Dual valve springs and titanium retainers along with a 3-angle valve job will fix that
good luck little bro

Bump, did a valve adjustment two days ago and didnt fix the problem. My intake valves were too tight, and my exhaust valves were to loose
But still have that rattle.
But still have that rattle.

Pick up one of those mechanics stethoscopes with the little tube on it. You touch it to the part & you can hear its individual sound. Its cheap too. I found out that one of my injectors were screwed up with it once.

yea i bet you can, that is loud. haha. Its defentily coming for the cylinder head only because of the sound its making. Its a pretty violent tap tap tap tap noise. I would just go ahead and dissasembly the cylinder head and inspect it for unusual wear or even just pull the vavle cover off and take a peep.

I wish I had time for that...But i guess itd be better to do that than blow my motor one day while driving.
The weird thing about the rattle, is it doesnt do it all the time, and only on narrow throttle. On WOT it goes away.
