engine noise when cold
okay, jdm b16 in a del sol...when the car is cold and i start it, there is a lot of noise coming from the engine. I can't pin down whether it's from the belt area (tbelt and alternator belts are the only ones on the car) or if it's coming from inside the motor. sounds metallic. when the car is warm the noise is gone...any ideas what it might be? i wouldn't be too concerned except for the fact that it's quite loud. thanks

Yep, also it could be your lma, if the noise goes away when vtec engages its more then likely the lma.
What header are you running though, I know a lot of headers will give off sound better causing your engine to sound louder then it was.

what do you mean by LMA? and actually, i don't have any vtec engagement right now, that's another problem i'm troubleshooting. i'm just running the jdm header (exhaust manifold) right now. it's only when the car is cold though. how in depth is checking valve lash? is it something i can do at home, or is it going to have to go somewhere? i'm not at home right now, so i don't have access to my manuals etc. thanks again.

Check cspeedracing.com for the valve adjustment
And the lma's are basically a spring type device that keeps your middle vtec rocker arm from floppy around when vtec is not engaged.

Re: engine noise when cold (xZeler8)
just for search reference, the problem ended up being a dent in the oil pan right underneath the oil pickup...was getting a max oil press of 20 psi and everything else checked out good...this was also obviously the cause of my vtec never engaging...
