The engine in my car....
Like Ive said before Im a mustang guy who bought a civic.
I kinda understand the Vtec thing but is my car a DOHC or a SOHC or does it change from SOHC to DOHC when I hit Vtec or am I horribly confused.
Also when does it engage? because i cannot really feel it or hear it.
BTW, 01 Civic EX 2 door.....

You're a bit confused. Check out http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm to learn about VTEC. Also, there are lots of DOHC engines. Most common ones mentioned with Civics: B16, B18, H22

All of the B and H series are DOHC, If your planning on swapping, I wouldnt look at anything other than GSR, Type-R or H22A

Whoa, not all of the B-series if you want to get technical. The 88-91 Prelude B20? was a B-series. You're looking into the "next gen" motor swaps. I think you would benefit greatly from search for the many K20 threads that have been started on here... (Shaun Hillian (sp?) as key word).

The 1999-2000 Civic Si comes stock with a b16a2 which is a DOHC VTEC engine.

yeah K series too in 01 and up honda/acura line. Does anybody know what motor you can swap into a d17 powered civic? Because I was at my local shop and I've see a new d17 laying around swapped out for something else, just curious (I've heard it's even harder to put in a K series in that bitch then EG).

it is difficult to hear vtec kicking in, in a sohc vtec motor. By installing an intake, header, exahust, etc etc it becomes a bit more easy to hear vtec kick in. Sohc vtec is more for economical purposes.

you can't hear a vtec kick in on that car, it activates at like 2000 rpms lol, I think it's only a ignition change over, no cam change over because you won't have enough oil pressure at 2000 rpms to lock the rocker arms.
