Default engine light blinking now boggin, misfiring, etc.

today i was changing the motor oil when i noticed coolant under my lower timing belt cover so i knew imediately it was the water pump. Got my water pump and drove my car to brother in law junk yard so he can work on the car. I got there turned of my car and he tell me to park my car in a different area. So I turned on the car then i hear my engine bogging..wanting to stumble. We left it on the check what it is...engine light turned on then it started blinking. I could smell gas fumes from the exhaust. We dont have a computer to check it but he was guessing it was some sensor. Im thinking it has something to do with the ignition.

The car is a 99 ej8 obd2.
No white smoke or black smoke.
Engine knocks when sudden misfire.

Guys please help this is the only form of transportation i have. Need to fix as soon as possible.

thanks!

i hope it has nothing to do with the valves. About 3 or 3 weeks ago my head gasket was replaced. So i have not been ragging on the car just my daily driver.

The blinking CEL indicates misfire on multiple cylinders sufficient to damage the catalytic converter. Do not drive until the problem is fixed. One possibility is that the timing belt has slipped a tooth or two due to damage by coolant. Alternatively, you may need a basic tune up (plugs/wires/distributor cap/rotor).
