Re: engine knocking when cold (josheezy)
Don't rev your motor when it's cold.........have your valves been adjusted recently, they can sometimes sound like a knock at idle.

most people dont know this, or dont care, but you are really supposed to let your engine warm up at least a LITTLE bit before driving it. on modern engines its not quite as big of a deal, but it does increase engine wear by some degree by driving it while cold.

Re: engine knocking when cold
No the valves haven't been adjusted and they are stock pistons...yea so i do warm the car up a little b4 drivin it at times but the sound still comes up...I just dont like the sound of it so is it just basically the pinging of the pistons when its cold and nothing to worry about

Ah. i've familiar with this problem. When you start the car and press on the gas you get a knock knock knock knock. very faint but its louder wen its cold. I think you got a knock in your engine buddy. I'm not too sure or trying to scare you or anything but recently i bought a 94 accord. everything was fine then one day i notice a slight knock when the engine was cold everytime i stepped on the gas = rod bearings. a porsche master tech told me when the the rod bearings are worn out, you only get a knock when load is applied to the engine. Several things that can cause this include running the car low on oil or u blew a head gasket. well since last year the sound got a bit louder n louder. i think my cars good for another year or two before it starts knocking really hard to be really really concerned about it but yeah.
it could be your valves, but valves make more of a clicking noise. put a screw driver to your ear and try n pinpoint the sound. if its from the top then its valve train. if its around the oil pan then u guessed it, a bearing. options are really jus replaced the whole motor because all the labor with doing rod bearings etc are jus way too much. gotta pull too much stuff out and dissasemble too much. or maybe your car has lots of carbon build up on ur cylinders therefore when the piston reaches near the top it hits some carbon n knock. well anyways.
tips on cold starts. just start the car and let it idle for 45secs then go. 1 min tops. car warms up faster when you drive it. especially if its an auto trans.
good luck buddy.

Now if it was COLD out, I could see piston slap making some noise.........but it is still SUMMER.
