yes i'm aware this is a sohc engine, but the sensors are in the same place

Just saw your other thread about the error code you were getting. It may be referring to the sending unit itself which is what gives you the readout on your gauge cluster for the temp. if your temp gauge is working then thats probably not the issue. It could also mean the ect switch which is on the thermostat housing. That sensor is responsible for telling your fan to kick on. If it is not functioning for some reason then yes it can cause the engine to overheat.

As he said, it's in the same place on both a DOHC and a SOHC.

That's the ECT, I think (that angle is too steep). That sends the signal to your ECU.

The fan switch is located in your thermostat housing - that's where your lower rad hose connects to the block.

could be partially cloged radiator or ports not allowing enough flow under a load and enough when at idle.

A bump isnt going to get you any more info. Cooling system problems cant really be daignosed over a forum. but a couple things that I can tell you is wait for the car to warm up check the upper and lower hose to make sure that they are the same temp if not this COULD indicate that the thermostat is stuck or partial closed. open the cap and as long as the thermostat is working properly then you should see water moving indicating that the pump is circulating. if you can get your hands on a non contact thermometer then you can check temp drop from upper to lower hose you should see at least a 20 degree drop. the last thing that I can tell you is if you flushed out your cooling system it is proberly because there was some sord of build up in the radiator so if you can look down into the radiator and look at the fins and they seemed to be a little clogged or have a whit residue built up on them then just replace the radiator and go from there. GL.
