Default Engine/clutch rattle

Hey guys!

I have a 1992 Del Sol with a D16Z6. lately the engine has been making this rattle. It sounds just like a heatshield, but i have removed them all. it comes on at 2200 rpm and then goes away, then it comes back on at 2600rpm..... i'm thinking that it might be the clutch that's making this noise.... but idk.... anyone have any ideas??

btw the clutch doesnt slip or anything.....

While driving or when revving the engine in neutral?

Under this^ condition, does the noise go away with the clutch pedal depressed or raised?

Try to more precisely pinpoint noise using an engine stethoscope.

yeah i should, but i don't have that tool. i'm just thinking that if it's comming from that side of the engine, then it could only be the clutch or tranny? but if it was a bearing inside of the tranny then it would be making a rumbling noise? and not a sheet metal'ish noise? i'm thinking that it's only the clutch that would be capable of making such a noise?

The clutch pedal test I mentioned, if done correctly, would rule out a transmission main bearing or clutch throw out bearing.

A stethoscope costs ~$3-4 at Harbor Freight.

Noise from the clutch is possible.

Heatshield rattle is more likely (you removed the ones bolted to the car too?). Or busted cat. Or clutch dust shield.
