i take it u didnt do your swap yourself..
just go ahead and get some dregreser, lots of rags, lil brush for those hard to reach areas . and go at it.. the time that will take you to clean it would depend how much you care about detail
good luck

if you've got access, i'd recommend lots of degreaser, and a steam cleaner, let it dry, then spray some dressing (Meguiar's) on the looms and plastic parts, looks pretty good afterwards IMO

1. Drive to coin-op pressure car wash
2. Open hood and cover any open filters, distributor, HID ballasts or any other sensitive electronics (covering battery is not required, just don't spray much in that area).
3. Using a spray bottle, spray a light mist over the engine bay to get everything wet.
4. Use Simple Green and douse the entire engine bay. Use the stream setting to get into the hard to reach places like down around the A/C compressor, behind the exhaust manifold, down the firewall, etc.
5. Let sit for a few minutes.
6. Go to town with the pressure washer, just try not to spray directly towards the distributor or battery/fusebox area.
7. Drive home, open hood, let engine bay dry.
8. Spray on dressing, I think I use some stuff from Meguiar's, it won't harm rubber stuff like Armor-All can. Just spray it on everything.
9. After awhile wipe off the excess from everything you can reach.
I've done it many times to my car (w/ 160K+ miles) and did it to my mom's 2000 Avalon last Mother's Day as part of my car detailing package.
Imagine a car w/ 70K+ miles that has never had its engine bay cleaned, after I cleaned it, it looked like this:
My engine:
No my car is not black and used to be teal, it's still teal but I have a black front end after being in a wreck, just haven't been able to get it painted yet.

Oh yeah now, almost one year after cleaning the Avalon's engine bay, it's back to being just dirty as ever.

Re: (ironcheftony)
If your lazy and dont want to do it yourself, go about 20 mins north on I5 out of the LA area and hit up one of those truck wash stops. They use a really strong Steam cleaner and they get all over the engine bay, even under the car.

Here's a good how-to from http://www.edmunds.com. Direct link: http://www.edmunds.com/ownersh....html. I used their advice when cleaning my engine and now it shines!
