Engine Bogged and CEL this morning...

This morning on my way to work, and after it had rained all night, my stock D16Y7 was acting up. It seemed to idle fine, but from about 1500 to 2000 on the tach the engine was bogging down. Above 2000 rpm it seemed to run fine. After a few minutes of this, while trying to accelerate, in the rain, from a stop, going up hill, the CEL flashed three or four times and then went out. After that the engine seemed fine until I pulled off the road and shut the car off just a few moments later.

I changed the oil on Friday so I checked to make sure that it was proerly filled, it was. No visible leaks over the last few days. The fuel tank was low but not empty. It was wet out and lightly raining at the time. I also checked the intake and it felt dry as far as my fingers could reach. Then I drove it for 9 miles to work without another sign of a problem. I am at work right now and have not had a chance to check for codes.

Here is what I am thinking, I hope someone could tell me if I am crazy: Two possible situations. Either (1) I injested some water that worked its way out of the system (but I don't know how I got water into the intake, I did not drive through any puddles) or (2) my plug wires (with 60k mi on them) were leaking current (but why would the problem go away above 2000 rpm?).

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Is your intake a cold air and do you have your fender liner in? I'm willing to bet you got a few drops of water into your intake.

I know my car did this a time or two when it was raining... I had an AEM CAI without a fender liner and it would bog down and then shut off.. I'd let it sit for a few minutes and it would start up again without a CEL.

However, you might want to go ahead and change those wires... Also, take the plugs out and try to turn the engine over.. see if any water comes out.

Do you have CEL on now? I'm a little confused because you said it went out, but didn't say it came back on

Stock intake.

Sorry. The CEL flashed three or four times. Then it went out. I stopped the car about a minute later and after that it never came back on.

Thanks.

I highly doubt you got any water in your stock intake then..

You may want to go ahead and just check if the ecu has stored any recent codes anyway. Also, make sure all your hoses are connected securely.

But, if you aren't throwing any codes and the problem isn't occuring, I wouldn't worry about it too much....

That is about what I was thinking too. I will do that as soon as I get a chance. I am still questioning the plug wires. They are old and used. Time for new ones.

Thanks for the help.

No problem..

I forgot to ask: have you messed with your MAP sensor at all? Sometimes a faulty one or mixing it up with the TPS can cause the engine to bog.

I can remember I hydroplaned one time a while back and I threw a MAP sensor CEL... I reset the ecu and it never came on again.

No messing with anything. Bone stock. I did slam on the brakes just before this all happened, though. Hard to tell. I have been dealing with a flood in my basement so I have not had a chance to check the codes. I will let you know when I do. Thanks for the help.
