Engine Bay Clean
Now first off, I know what you are going to say search
but this is different
I just bought a car from Michigan and the car isn't greasy, just has a lot of rust and salt
what would be the best solution to clean this type of mess?

Re: Engine Bay Clean (MugenHonda)
I'm gonna say, elbow grease and Purple Power for the salt and what not under the hood... Don't get it on paint... It'll hurt.
For the body exterior, just use a mild soap and elbow grease again... a pressure washer will help here too.
Rust.... Navel Jelly will eat the rust, but it will still need to be addressed with finish work.
Good luck.
Get the ruct fixed before it gets to far along....

Re: Engine Bay Clean (JDMlifestyle)
ive found that elbow grease,an eye for detail and turtle wax formula 2001 work great..ive even used pine sented spray on vinyl cleaner under the hood of my car right before a car show just to make people wonder where "that smell" was coming from...
seriously though..vinyl cleaners work great on under hood paint, hoses, plastics and wires

Don't spray Simple Green on the valve cover or any painted/anodized products. I spray Simple Green all over the engine block tranny and really dirty parts down below, scrub, then rinse off. Use a mild soap on everything colored up top, just like you would treat your exterior paint.

if you have rust and salt there is this kind of parts cleaner i use to clean it up really really well. Much better then simple green. Pressure washer didnt seem to work very well but if your engine is out you could use a high pressure washer with a good parts washer and clean it. if there is a lot of rust then you could use a handheld sandblaster and repaint your engine bay. If you want it really clean.

Re: (Red D Dragon)
Simple Green on everything ...from wheel s to engine bay and ive never had a problem..if it mess s up any paint work it probably the paint prep is bad..after rinsing off i use some WD-40 on the electrical parts to displace any the water
for the rust there s some rust remover u can pick up at Kragen s..but afterwards id brush on some primer or rust resistent type paint to keep it from coming back..most likely the rust was a result of the salt..but do get rid of that rust cuz its like cancer on metal
