Default Which engine is in the 99 civic

Looking at a 94 civic lx 1.5L Auto that bottom end is knocking and guy said he has a 1999 1.6L engine to swap in.. Will that even work. He didnt mention the engine models.

I couldnt tell which one the 99 had in it.. Will it work to just swap the engine not the tranny?
I tried searching for 1994 civic 1.6L swap and got nothing.

any swap WILL work, some are just more compatible than others. I mean, people are putting gsr motors in civics. nevertheless,

you just need the engine but thats an OBD2 car, some wiring issues will have to be addressed, not too hard though. If he said he can do it for you, let him do it. It works. 1.6L LX from that year makes more power but the VTEC ones came in the EXs.

so this looks like a d15b7 swap to d16or b16. I didn't see that on the tiger page

Am I getting this right?
So it looks like to me if it is a d16 the tranny is required also..

if you're swapping D series to D series, you do not need a trans. You can use your existing trans. Any 88-00 D series trans will bolt up to any 88-00 D series. However, for your purposes, use the 92-00 D series trans since it's a hydraulic clutch.

The 1.6 D series will swap in with minimal fuss. Swap over your D15 intake manifold, intake manifold sensors, fuel injectors, etc., and the D15 exhaust manifold. Everything else is the freaking same. Obviously, use your original wiring harness and ECU.

If it's a 99 D16Y8, you will need to either shoe horn an OBD1 Distributor on there, or mod the distributor plug to fit your harness. The 99-00 D16Y8 is the only motor you will have this issue with. That's the 1.6L single cam VTEC out of an EX.

You forgot a lot too.

The OP didn't mention where he lives, which means the engine choices can vary greatly.

OP, what country do you live in?

If you're in the US, the engine choices for 1999 Civics would be:
CX = D16Y7 (SOHC non-VTEC)
DX = D16Y7 (SOHC non-VTEC)
EX = D16Y8 (SOHC VTEC)
GX = D16B5 (SOHC VTEC CNG)
HX = D16Y5 (SOHC VTEC-E)
LX = D16Y7 (SOHC non-VTEC)
Si = B16A2 (DOHC VTEC)

Engine choices overseas are similar (the 1.6L versions), but the codes are different and some of the specs are different.

In the US all 1996-2000 Civic engines were 1.6L engines.

As long as the '99 engine is a SOHC, the tranny should fit.

ummm.... maybe i forgot how to read, but i'm pretty sure he didn't ask what kind of engine the 99 has. I'm pretty sure he asked if the engine would be compatible with his current tranny, and i think we did answer that. if you're gonna knock someone else for not answering a question, at least make sure you do. god hates you, go play in traffic.
