Default Emissions..whats the point???

Off topic a little..
Just got my 95 Ex E-checked today, and here are the scores..
Carbon= .14 out of 1.20
HydroCarbon= 13.0 out of 220.0
Co2 was not tested.

This is with I/H/E
So, why do they continue to check cars that emit such low...low pollutants?
Seriously, why do they continue to check cars that score so well...
Im thinking that the large commercial transports are the largest pollution violators, however... are they even required to pass emission testing??

To reduce our smog...

i wonder how bad a turbo car with a test pipe would do on those scales.

I understand the literal meaning, however... still with cars scoring extremely under the alowed amount... whats the point?
I have not known anyone who has failed an emissions test, even with heavily modded cars both domestic and import.
Time to stop thinking about it and drink a beer

OH standards are much less strict than CA standards... people fail smog all the time out here

I tested my emissions today. It's nothing more than a money making scheme. They just use the clean air act as a cover.

HC
94 out of 188

CO
.04 out of 1.25

NOx
575 out of 2188

This was with a beat to hell 93 Ex. Bad compression and all.

FYI: Emissions will start back up on October 17th in Connecticut.

Wow, it must be nice living in OH then. I've known many heavily modded motors that failed our CA smog testing. Even a Civic with the 50-state JRSC kit failed. My tuner looked at his sheet and guessed that his JR fuel setup might've clogged his cat. When I was boosted, I was dyno tuned for optimal a/f, but I know there was no way in hell I would've passed. (I had to sell the kit before smog testing.) It's good to care about the environment and all, but smog laws are so strict in CA.

California is a DIFFERENT animal altogether...

I don't know about other states emissions testing, like in Ohio, but in Cali, the amounts allowable for emissions such as CO, NOx, CO2, and HCs just keep getting lower and LOWER.

Had a chit-chat on this in my auto electronics and advanced engine theory/applications course in college... turned ugly. Domestics VS. Imports, Old school VS. New school, Young VS. Old. EVERYONE had an opinion.

In general, those emission standards are set to keep the EPA happy and our environment, Planet Earth, clean. Seriously, if you think making power means you have to emit gross amounts of HCs and such, then that's partially true. On the other hand, with GOOD engineering and tuning, you'd be surprised to find that huge power amounts don't necessarily always stem from vehicles making unheard amounts of CO or HCs.

Oh, and in regards to trucks...diesel engines burn cleaner than gasoline engines...to an extent, but that's another engine type altogether.
