Default emissions trouble

I live in Maryland. And i had to go to emissions but i knew i wouldnt pass cuz i have an itr swap in my 96 hatch. I hid my diagnostic port because it would not read when i tried to plug it into the obd tester. Im not sure if its obd2 or not. Im thinking its obd1 since the obd tester says to check connections or it failed to read. Will an obd conversion harness with a obd2 ecu work? I hope i explained it well enough..any help is needed thanks!

Wait a minute.
It's running now?
Verify the year of the engine before you start throwing parts at it?

Older engine in newer car must be an automatic fail in MD.

Just get an obd2 ecu. It should plug into your stock harness just fine. You will get some check engine codes since your obd1 motor does not have some obd2 parts, but once you fix those it will pass.

Get a '97 USDM ITR ECU, perform the CKF trick shown here -> http://technet.ff-squad.com/ckftrick.htm and take care of any other CELs you may have.

I haven't been on ht in awhile. But i just checked my bill from where I ordered my motor and it says its a 96-97 JDM B18C R. So I don't see why it wont read my code reader for obd2 cars. Maybe my motor is obd2 but something is wrong when i plugged in the code reader. Someone told me the motor was obd1. I still need to learn about wiring in cars. Im just gonna do a lot of research. Its so confusing. But once I figure this out, does anyone know what would be the best chipped ecu's/tuning to get?

Pull out your ecu and figure out what kind it is. Theres a stamp or sticker on it. Then google it and you will out if the computer is obd1 or 2. I highly doubt its a wire malfunction to the code reader port, but I could be wrong.

Because it's a JDM engine. That's why. Should have mentioned that in the first post.
