Emissions help on EG / GSR swap. . .
Hey all, im brand new to h-tech. I just took delivery of an EG w/GSR swap and other goodies, and am in need of direction to get this car to pass emissions.
I did search for methods and ideas, but would like more specific ideas on what is necessary to pass lowspeed test in the area of HC's.
Motor modifications
intake
adjustable fpr (set at 40psi...im at high altitude 5500 ft. should i lean it up more?)
pcv breather filter
dcsports header
hollowed out stock cat
2.5inch custom exhaust no resonator and a muffler of some sort.
stock(ish) timing
brand new igniter and coil.
91 octane in the tank.
Today i went in for emissions and passed all tests EXCEPT for HCs during low speed emissions test (750 rpm).
Normal = 220ppm
Mine = 280ppm - FAILED
Other numbers were as follows
High Speed Test - (2436 rpm)
HC-Normal = 220
HC-Mine = 101 - PASS
CO%-Normal = 1.20
CO%-Mine = .79 - PASS
Low Speed Test
CO% - Normal = 1.20
CO% - Mine = .52 - PASS
Any input is greatly appreciated...can't wait to get acquainted with the honda-tech community.

Your O2 sensor might be bad or going bad.
As the O2 sensors get older, it reacts slower to mixture changes and sometimes makes the engine stay on the rich side (at least on idle).
You can also retard the timing. Make sure you install a jumper wire located on the passenger side glove compartment so the ECU does not try to adapt when you are actually changing the timing. If you dont put this, the ECU will try to bring it back to its original timing every time you move the distributor.

I will check out the 02 sensor then...thanks for the input!
Is there a possibility that the hollowed out cat, could be the culprit as well?
I have access to another stock cat, that would be a bit quicker to get/install than the 02, for now.
Also, do you think there is anyway that leaning out the fuel pressure a shade could help out any?
Lower octane?
Thanks for your help.

get a working cat converter man.youll pass with out a problem....and even 220 ppm is high...theres no way your gonna pass without a working cat

I am bolting up a working cat today, and heading down to get the 2nd checkup tomorrow A.M.

I agree. Putting in the working cat will probably get it to pass. Good luck! Lord knows I had my share of problems with emissions tests....

Thanks everyone for the input.
The current cat on the car is welded up to the exhaust - so it looks like im not goin down to the emissions place tomorrow till i get a new stock exhaust.
