Icon2 Emissions

So... I need to get my emissions tested next week...

and... I don't have a muffler, I drive a 98 civic.

I tore mine off once because it was rattling and all the guts fell out, so I tossed it.

Any way is it even possible to pass emissions (I am in Washington) without a muffler on?

If not, what muffler would you recommend? I will probably just pull a stock one off at a Junk Yard and bolt it on there... even though there are no bolts, and; I'm trying to avoid getting anything welded.

Think about this. If you inspected cars, and you got one that did not have a muffler and was obnoxiously loud.... would you pass it?

Junkyard a muffler, and if it doesn't fit, make it fit. Use a soup can, JB Weld, and hose clamps. It's obviously a temporary solution, but it'll work.

Haha, yeah, but mine really is not that loud when its idling.

But yeah, I will just find my year stock muffler and slide it right on.

Never before this, have I ever considered quoting someone in my sig. That is awesomeness contained in a quote.

To the OP, what does a muffler have to do with emissions? I could understand removing the cat and wondering if it will pass or fail, but the muffler is only for sound control (which is why even **** California lets you swap the muffler).

Exactly why I am asking man.

I'm not sure if the muffler effects the actual emissions test.

haha, thanks. I hate to admit it, but I used that method to "fix" an exhaust leak... for 2 years...

No, a muffler is not really emissions equipment, but if you're missing one, I highly doubt that they'll let it pass.

we've passed a car at a smog test with no muffler, in CA at that (long story). point being, it had very minute effects on the emmissions test so your car can pass the sniffer test without it.

it definetely won't pass the visual test.

So the best idea would be to get a stock muffler and jam it on?

Does the visual test go along with the emissions test?

If it was me, I would get a Bosal Muffler which is a direct fit and put it on.

As for the Bosal muffler I looked at it and it says will fit an EX Sedan and Coupe

The problem is my exhaust seems to be different than every other EX model.

My muffler is not bolted on after a foot or so of piping, my exhaust is welded all the way back to the cat.

Wtf do I do; I don't want to have to get **** welded.
