emissions
ok, so i got an EF for free and it is completely stock.
Everything is good except it doesn't pass emissions. The previous owner said it hasnt had a tuneup in a while, but i am a poor college kid and before i went and started replacing a bunch of parts i wanted to consult the h-t emmisions gurus.
So these are the results from the test.
Can anyone give me some pointers to what i need to do to get this to pass.
thanks in advance.
link works but i cant get the picture to display on this site

Member twentywontowin just posted an article that stated this. No emmissions for pre obd2 cars.
Maybe because there's a transfer in ownership

Re: (thesmogman)
sorry the motherboard on my computer died so i havent been able to get on for a while.
but back on topic...
i see, is there any way to pinpoint it. The car isnt throwing any codes so the o2 sensor should be working. but is there any way to test if these things are all working properly?

Re: (egcivic)
remove the plugs and see if there is any difference from each cylinders.
use a volt meter to test the o2
put a fuel pressure gauge on the car.
it looks like you have a rich miss fire( to much fuel)

Maybe that's what it need, pull the spark plug out and check it, change the oil too. set the timing lower

i just bought my 93 hatch in cali and it was smogged there and then i drove it all the way here and i didn't get my notice yet. i know parts of illinois don't have emission's but i heard that they aren't doing pre ODB II cars now. i had a couple of my friends said that they don't need to do it anymore too and we don't live in farmlands neither. also egcivic after you pass the emission ask the guy testing your car, if you have to test the car ever again. good luck man!

Re: (EvilPhu)
well its actually my freinds car, i got it from a freinds dad and gave it to a freind so im trying to help him get it through emmisions. i will check everything listed in here and get back, just thought it be easier if i left out all the not needed details
but i will check, basically make sure everything that could cause a misfire is not causing one then if needed retard the timing, oh yea and replace the cats for good luck

in IL there is one last check on all pre-OBD2 cars, Feb 2 2007 seems to be the cut off. (I know a few people waiting to register cars to avoid this)
The chart you posted up looks like the O2 is slow to respond or the ECU is chipped.
If you just want to get it to pass, pull the ignition 2*, lower the fuel pressure a little (to get those spikes down a little), fill the tank with premium and ad one bottle of heat. It's not the perfect way to do things but it should get you past this round. And the next rounds should be a a lot easier.
ALSO be very careful how many times you test, fail the third time and you have a really good chance of being tested again in a year.

Re: (Relic1)
i have had my mr2 buddies pass with e85 fuel (flex fuel). you have to almost be empty with you tank and fill it up with e85 fuel about a quarter way and take it to the dmv. after you are done with the test just fill it up with regualar fuel you used.
