Default emergency del sol engine swap

Ok my buddy has a 97 honda del sol s, a few weeks ago his dumbass was racing a prelude and at the same time he got a speeding ticket and he blew his engine somehow. thats not important, whats important is we also have an 89 crx hf, it has a d15b5 in it ( i believe ) and we need to take that engine and drop it in his del sol. we're planning on doing this tomr so i really need to know what we should expect to encounter. the crx runs perfectly fine its just been wrecked in the rear, its our "project" you could say. but we really need to get this motor in, and i just need to know if it will work.
thank you.
IM me on AIM:: ubercerealkiller if you can help

well, for starters, the CRX engine is obd0 and the del sol is obd1or2 (not sure since its a 97)

that might be an issue. ssecond, the crx is a cable tranny and sol is a hydro. you will need either a conversion (HASport has one i believe) or get a hydro tranny.

I dont see why it wouldnt work.... it should be fairly straight forward..... may run into a problem with the OBD crap though....

Couldnt he still just use the tranny from the sol on the CRX motor?

I believe you can drop in a d15b5 in a Del Sol, use the del sol tranny, ECU, and distributor and you might get away with OBD problem

im sure u can do it what i would do is use the old delsol harness engine and car harness also i would use the intake manifold and distributor and tranny from the delsol to make all the wiring easier even the fuel rail would be a good idea.. that would make it a direct bolt in after u swap those parts as far as all the sensors and stuff go.. and when u get time in the future drop the d16z6 head on there and the compression will be higher and it will create more horse then the original.

d16z6 only came in the 93-95 del sol Si's. In 96 the engines changed to the same models the newer ( at that time ) civics used. Plus this is a del sol S , not Si. S came with D16y7 which is his original engine, which is the same engine that came in the 96-00 civic Dx/Lx. Si came with D16Y8, which is the same as the 96-00 Civic EX. and plus just about everything from his old engine is fried.

Thanks for all your help guys. Gota head over there in about 45 minutes to get started, so thanks for the help.

ur going to need to transplant all the obd-1 **** from the sol engine to the crx engine. the injectors, manifold, injectors, fuel rail, tranny, ecu, and distributor, engine harness (basically u cant use any of the plugs from the crx engine. so just pull the del slo engine and take off any plugs u see and swap em and itll be real easy w/o any wiring headaches. then it should be a pretty simple swap.

you could try using that HF short block as long as it got 4 vavle piston reliefs. I believe the 97 s del sol got a d series vtec motor (d16y8?). If his head is still fine (maybe?) try doing a mini swap. Then you won't really have that many obd II issues.

No. 96-97 del sol is obd2 just like any other honda. 96 and up is obd2. Anyway, its a d16y7 in his del sol which is sohc non-vtec.

just have to fix the confusion...

93-95 Del Sol S - D15B7 SOHC non-VTEC - OBD1
93-95 Del Sol Si - D16Z6 SOHC VTEC - OBD1
94-95 Del Sol VTEC - B16A3 DOHC VTEC - OBD1

96-97 Del Sol S - D16Y7 SOHC non-VTEC - OBD2a
96-97 Del Sol Si - D16Y8 SOHC VTEC - OBD2a
96-97 Del Sol VTEC - B16A2 DOHC VTEC - OBD2a

------------------------------------------------

86-91 - pre-OBD or OBD0
92-95 - OBD1
96+ - OBD2

just trasfer the head if it the vavles will clear the pistons (some hf motors got 4 vavle releafs some don't) this way the motor will have enough power to actually move the car, and you will be able to run obd2.

or I bet you could find a d series (vtec or not) long block for like $100-150 at some shop
It takes me less then an hour to find a d series motor.
