em1 evap/thermostat issue
I'm having some issues with my 00 civic si, first of all last winter when I drove on roads with a decent amount of hills on them my engine temperature gauge would act up, I always let my car warm up fully before I drive it, and everything would be fine but when I would come to the crescent of a hill and start crusing down it with my foot off the gas the temp gauge would rise more and more as I went further down the hill, it would stay there until I started driving on level roads, it only did this during the past two winters I drove it and I would like to get whatever the issue is resolved before this winter, I was thinking its possibly the thermostat, and the second issue is I am throwing cel # p1457 which is the fuel evaporative system, I know its hard to pinpoint the mishap in the system so people replace piece by piece until its fixed but my friend took his complete evap system off of his 98 ex when he swapped and dropped it to obd1 and offered it to me for a very cheap price, would that be compatible, I looked around and the charcoal canister is pretty damn expensive as it is, if I could put his in and everything would be fine that would be perfect, I believe its my fault why the evap system went bad due to always topping my gastank off to its maximum capacity, if not overfilling it, I realize now that it does harm.
All help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

90% of the time an evap code is because you don't have your gas cap on tight enough. try that first.
have you ever bled the coolant system?

yeah sounds like bleeding the coolant could be it as weird as that sounds. also how did you throw a EVAP code cause honestly i have had my EVAP system removed for a couple years now and have never thrown an EVAP code. but that part about the gas cap is true that is a major cause of that code.

Ok, I'll double and triple check the gast cap, is it possible for a seal in the cap to go bad because I always turn it until it clicks 3 times...and how do I bleed the system? Just drain the coolant out and refill it?

there is a bleeder screw on the t-stat housing. start the car, and get it warmed up to operating temp. once it is at temp, crack that bleeder screw till coolant starts coming out. once the coolant coming out is a steady stream, close the bleeder screw. top off the coolant, and you're done.
and yes, it is possible for gas caps to go bad, that is why they test them at emission test time. if you make sure it is tight to three clicks, and still get the code, try a new cap, should be pretty cheap.
