EM1 cel code question.
While driving home today in the pouring rain, the cel on my wifes bone stock 99 civic si came on. I went out a little bit ago, still pouring rain, jumped the plug and come up with a code 1. Am I correct that it is the 02 sensor on the exhaust manifold?

Is this a code will "reset" after so many cycles or does it go away directly when the problem if fixed (new o2 sensor). She's spazed out it and dont want to drive it till the light is off. She bought the car new and it now has just over 150k and has only had brakes and timing belt/waterpump changed, so she's had awsome luck with it.

I got that code before and i reset and it never came back. Of course, ive only got 76k miles. 150k its probably due for a new one cause thats a lot of miles

it does not necessarily mean there is a problem with the O2 itself. It is a voltage issue in the heater circuit. I would reset the CEL, and if the issue comes back, then proceed to diagnose.

My 90 hatch has 263k and still going strong (and getting 36-38mpg)
Anyway back on topic, my best bet would be to try to reset before buying a new one I guess since she has talked of getting another car. To reset you have to disconnect the battery dont ya?

I drove the car to the store the other mourning and I thought it started kinda slow. The battery is the factory battery, it started fine today , and was real cold the mourning I drove it. May be due for a new battery.

I had someone with a obd2 reader reset mine. On occasions, whenever one of my buddies cars would get a CEL, we'd just pull out the ecu fuse for about 20secs. Although thats probably not the correct way of doing it

That is what the FSM's say to do.
