EM1 blue smoke
I need some of yalls opinion on this one ... its weird whats happening
Its a em1 civic Si with 120k miles and its smoking blue smoke when I drive it. Did a compression test on it , 180 all across, did a leak down test as well ... Coolant level is good , oil level is good too. So I took the head off to see whats happening. Valves look ok , but two of them on the exhaust side are wet , the rest is dry. Could that be bad valve seals ???
But here is a another problem ... That is a new head I purchased that has 2 of those valves that are wet from oil. But the old had cracked a valve on the same spot. So I decided to take out the piston #3 and inspect that as well, ring and piston look good .
So what the heck is going on with this blue smoke ??? Could it be just a another bad head again ???

Re: EM1 blue smoke
Blue smoke is burning oil. So rings/valves seals.
Although the compression isn't that low, most b16's that I have seen have much higher numbers.
But, I would say you really wasted your time pulling the engine apart now. Sence you have it all apart, why not throw some rings, and seals at it.

Re: EM1 blue smoke
I checked the rings , they look good , walls are good too... Its a b16a2 original motor , I thought thats a good compression (180) for a 11yr old car that has 120k . I guess ill just buy new valve seals and take it to the machine shop to get it changed , inspected , re-surfaced , cleaned and pressure test.

They aren't bad with those amounts of miles. Most of the engine that I saw had a little less.
Remeber just because something looks good, doesn't mean they are.
My buddy's walls looked great, but she burned and smoked like a pig.
Just me, but I would. You already have everything apart. Why not? It beats putting it all back togther just to do it again down the road right?
You don't have to. I would though

i dont hear much SUCCESS storys with changing valve seals....and people end up wasting their money. most of the time, it is the piston rings for the oil burning.
180 seems low for a high compression engine like yours. those numbers are what integra LS's put up.
