EM1 with 190k miles?
looking at an EM1 with 190k on the clock for $3700. it's a 2000 and has had all routine stuff done that would need it (timing belt, tranny and oil fluid changed at appropriate times, etc. or so the guy says). i test drove it earlier and it seemed to run fine but just wondering if there are any other guys out there with one that has similar mileage. the guy claims them to be mainly highway miles which would make sense for a 2000. is $3700 a fair price? i'd hate to pick this up and it completely fall apart on me.

3700 is actually already lower than his asking price. i talked him down from 4000. the car seems to be in fair condition. small dent in the driver's fender, SLIGHT damage to the front bumper, and a few tiny scratches that could probably be buffed. engine was pretty clean. one previous owner did spray one entire side of the engine bay to prevent rust on the strut tower though? so one side is black.

With an engine with that high of mileage I would just pay to have a compression and leakdown test... If everything is good after that I would say go for it...
Some EM1s were well taken care of over their entire life span but most were driven hard and abused...

Not that a carfax will bring everything to light, but when you mention that one side of the bay is sprayed to "prevent rust" it sounds... sketchy.
They could be telling the truth, though it sounds very odd.
