electric impact guns
any tryed this thinking bout getting one will it break a crank loose or like really torqued bolts

I've used one to remove the nut off of my axles and it worked OK, but when I tried it to remove the pully off of the crank it a was a no-go.
It wasn't mine and I didn't know the specs, but it really frustrated me that it wouldn't remove my crank bolt.

i have a cheap one from harbor freight, and supposedly it is rated to crank 250 ft-lbs. it gets the job done most of the time but for a crank bolt, probably not. those bastards are a serious PITA to get out.

There are pleny of pneumatic guns out there that cannont remove crank pullies.

those impact screw drivers are bad ***, they have something like a 1000 ft of torque off of 18 volts, I've never seen a socket one like that though, looks tight

I use a comuple of eletric tools one being the default eletric impact it's great, but it will not take the crankbolt off. Also I like to use the small impact cordless eletric screw driver, like any of the 18v cordless ryobi impact it's nice...

i have a yamaha(?) brand one and it works wonders. however for the crank i would you a giant breaker bar. for those who cant do it then i suggest not being weak

the snap on one worked pretty good for me. Removed my crank pulley bolt without even trying. But some of those ******* can be a really big pain in the ***. I remember 3 years ago I had to use 3/4" impact (something that you use on diesel trucks) to take that bolt off. Try sticking a prybar thru the starter hole and break it loose with a breaker bar, if you don't wonna buy that tool.

Seriously, this nitrocat (aircat) is absolutely amazing. I have an old school version of it that was 1200lbft working tq in reverse and 200-1000 working tq normal and it just "popped" it loose. I was in absolute amazement and told my woman all about it. She didnt care. You WONT regret buying it.
of course, you'll want an air compressor first lol

It's questionable. Even at the shop, sometimes we can't break axle nuts free with my Matco impact gun or the Snap-On "Big Bertha" we use. I say just stock up on WD-40 and invest in a good breaker bar with a long piece of piping to give you more leverage. Just IMO though...

Yeah, same here, have the top one that snap-on made (this was back in last fall, not sure if they have a new "best one") and sometimes on crank bolts they just won't come up w/ a impact gun -- sometimes u HAVE TO suck it up, stop it up, and use a breaker bar, u'd be surprised how much torque u can get off of that, and if not, EXTEND leverage, piece of PVC piping always works, use a breaker bar and u can get that bolt off np, I've never had a problem not getting it off w/ a breaker bar if a impact gun doesn't work..
