Ek9 Civic Type R Race Base
Hello Everybody,
Recently I was fortunate enough to import a 2000 CTR Race Base from Japan. I am wondering if any else on this forum has experience with a first gen CTR? Great car, but due to it being rhd and set up for racing ( including rigid engine mounts) shifting is a bugger and the car is so loud and firm I have nick named it 'Angry Blender'. It almost makes the ITR feel like a luxury car. I used to post on itrca but alas it has been down for along item.

My question is how is it to live with? Any problems with maintaining a rhd car? What are your experiences?

No issues maintaining it other than RHD specific parts not being relatively available. As for your concerns, change mounts, change exhaust and boom, less race car feel more standard economy feel.

Those are great suggestions and I am certainly certainty considering it but with it being a Race Base that was actually . . . well . . . raced in Japan, I wanted to keep it as I received it. Part of my post was to hear from others with stock EK9s to know about their experiences. Perhaps I should just wear one of my bike helmets when I drive, it certainly would be quieter!

It can be quite difficult. Any time you're working on the car, you'll need to erect a large mirror in front of the bay so it appears LHD and your American tools don't damage it. If you ever get pulled over by a cop, he'll begin to instinctively walk to the "driver" side of the car. I recommend buying a life sized blow up doll and placing it in the passenger seat, and fitting it with a mouth piece so you can speak through it like a ventriloquist. This will calm the cop and make him think it's a LHD car.

Hello,
I would like to post pictures on this site however I don't think I am allowed to post attachments just yet. For pictures of the car in Japan they are in www.ek9.org in General Chat under 2000 Race Base. The car is very much the same as pictured except for the pod on the steering column for the oil pressure gauge has been removed and the front aftermarket bumper has already been removed and coloured matched by a professional painter. The interior was cleaned and a factory valve cover has been purchased and will be installed when I have time. All the suspension components have been checked and new bushings installed where needed. I will be detailing the engine bay when I install the valve cover. A body man checked the car and informed me that the car appears to have never been in an accident.

Re: Ek9 Civic Type R Race Base
Aside from not being able to use drivethru's, and some parts being harder to find, it's nothing different than a "normal" civic.
Most of us here have given up some sort of comfort for performance. It sounds like you may be giving up more than others, but to some it's worth it.
My car for example, there's no way in hell I could DD this thing, I'm fortunate enough to be able to drive a company car so it's not an issue.

As far as I'm aware the cars are exactly the same, even in the engine bay minus the firewall (clutch/brake and battery/fuse box on opposite sides and such). What else is different?

I'm just casually asking this as I have never bothered to research this on Google or anything, but what parts would really be different for a RHD EG/EK Civic?
