EK steering stiffer than EG?
I used to have a 95 CX hatch and the steering in that felt much easier than the one in my 97 dx. I'm just wondering if it's an EK thing, or maybe something just needs to be adjusted or lubed.
My friend that has a 95 dx coupe drove my car and said that it's much stiffer than his car. Also, my car has 205-50-15 tires on it and his has 17's.
I searched about this, but could only find steering rack swapping and quaife threads.

Re: EK steering stiffer than EG? (Wazup)
cx hatches dont have power steering and some dx's dont either, if you have no power steering it will be stiff

Re: EK steering stiffer than EG? (i heart Vans)
ok well this is what my friend tells me .. i own a 97 hatch and he owns a 93 eg hatch .. both of us have no power steering but according to him.. since the eg's had no power steering they were made to feel light with the bare parts needed for proper steering without powersteering.. as for my 97 hatch if you removed the power steering pump but all the stuff made for the power steering to work right is still on the car it will be way harder to steer. i don't really think you can swap or remove any of the main components to make it better .. tried my best to explain it but i don't know much about the parts that make up the steering, but hope it helped...

i have a 96 DX that feels easier and lighter than any car with PS i have ever driven. my guess would be those tires. when i put new tires on mine it felt even better.
as for servicing... i don't really know. if the boots for the rack are cracked open then there may be dirt and crap in there but i have seen plenty of cars like that with a fine steering feel. i don't know what you would do to service it if you had to anyway.
