Default ek starts fine but rpm trouble plz help if u know

ok i can start my car 96 civic ex with d16y8, just chged the fuel filter, acouple parts before, anyone know if the their is a diff between a vtec or non vtec distributor, the code number is the same on both. well i start my car fine, but i put my windows up and hold it and the rpm drops to like 200 but never stalls, and when i turn on diff electronics the rpm drops the same to like 200 and hesitaes and goes back up, can it be the timing of the distributor, this happens at idle. plz give suggestions.

another thing i take my 2nd spark plug wire off my spark plug and the car shuts off should that happe cuz the other ones when i take them off the car hesitates but doesnt stall, could their be a piston ring bad or compression, im going to do a compression test soon if autozone has the compression tester which they should

thx anyhelp would be appreciated, im selling the car and dont want anyone else having problems with it and giving honda a badname cuz i been driving hondas forever, ohh the car drives normal, rpm never sits still though when in nuetral

i want to say its probably your iacv. but, how consistant is it that you take out your 2nd spark plug wire that it dies and the others keep running? how old are your spark plugs? how old is the dizzy? your timing could be off.

while i could be wrong i doubt its your compression.

yes, dizzy = distributor. i am leaning towards this being spark related because of that. i dont know if it will need to be advanced or not, but its likely. you should probably take a timing gun to it. also, perhaps there is a bad ground somewhere or your alternator is getting tired.

also for legibility's sake, try to break up your thoughts into sentences instead of phrases delimited by commas

its funny cuz battery is brand new, alternator is brand new and so is the "dizzy". Im going to advance it today cuz the engine seems weak too. i have a timing gun but i dont know how to use it yet. Ohh and the duzzy on their was from ebay but the guy said it was on a non vtec car but the code on it was the same as my dizzy, would it matter should i put a vtec dizzy on, cuz ud think its the right dizzy

your dizzy isnt going to cause that. and there is no difference between vtec and nonvtec dizzy's. sounds like you have a couple plug wires switched. order should be 1-2-4-3, starting with the top left plug on the dizzy, going to the first plug on the right. if your car is dying under electrical load, then its something with the alternator maybe.

maybe. start the car, pull the negative cable off the battery, if it dies, its your alternator. if it stays running, turn on your lights, and see what happens.

^^good methodology there i say try that. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by v8killaz &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">spark plug wires a deff correct cuz i chked them like 10 times, how can the alt be bad i just(5 days ago chged it), maybe a short wire</TD></TR></TABLE>it could a short, or a bad ground. after you do the 2redstars test then search your grounds if the car doesnt die.

well see it sucks beeing honest so i have to keep the car and not sell it cuz i can sell it asap for 3500$ but i just wont sell a buyer a bad product thats just not me, i drove the car 200 miles today with no problems just hard starts, ill put new rings in which i hope causes some good compression, but i wish its not valve seals too, when i got the car i chnged spark plugs, wires, dizzy, alternator, battery, put in new hdlights and stereo, i did all the work myself of course, i would never reduild a d16 i can get them for 140$ in good condition you know
