ek: rear brakes locking after rear disc swap
I did a gsr rear disc conversion on my 98 hatch about 3-4 months ago. at first there was a slightly noticable bias to the rear. ie on a hill the car would stay rather than roll down but would release after moving. all of a sudden they are now locking and not releasing. after shutting down the car and letting sit for a moment they will release. this isn't happening every time I drive. has only happened twice over this past weekend. what could be wrong? do I just need to get going and swap out the prop valve or is it something else? could this cause any harm other than wearing the pads quickly?

Do you still have the stock brakes on the front? change the mc? change the prop valve? what all did you change when you did the rear disc conversion?

get the proportioning valve from the 99-00 Si, that should solve a lot of your problems...rear discs need less pressure then rear drums because of the way the pad make the friction

I don't think that the prop valve will fix the problem because the 99-00SI prop valve is for a car with big brakes on the front. This guy has a hatch which has the little brakes up front. The only car that honda has made with his brake setup is the 92-95SI and I don't think that a 5G prop valve will work in a 6G.

get the 40 40 prop valve
it comes in a variety of diff honda/acura and should do the trick
i got mine from a 95 gsr and my brakes work awesome

i did that swap i used a 99 si master cylinder and did not use a different por. valve.
i would look at the e brake cables or you might a caliper is hanging up.

the valve is empty its used to route the lines... use a gsr master or a 99-00civic si master in the civics the proportioning is done by the master cyl...
the si master is 15/16" the gsr is 1" piston

mine too.
if you didnt change the front pads to a compound that is as-good-as the rears, then the rears will lock up... i would change all the pads to the same type and then bleed the brakes.

How is the proportitioning done by the MC if there is only ONE line coming from the MC? One line goes from MC to prop valve. Prop valve splits into 4 new lines. So proportioning must be done at the prop valve.
Using a 99-00SI prop valve may likely cause a problem with his front brakes because the EX/SI front calipers are much larger than those on his hatch. So next week the guy will be posting that he swapped the prop valve and now his fronts are locking up.
Also, I don't think that all civs use the same prop valve. Call a dealer and have them check part numbers to be sure.

Doesnt Honda proportitioning valve split front right and rear left and vice versa?
I would check the cables. Do both of the rears lock up? You might have something heating up the brake line/s. Like an exhaust leak.

however, he's probably already blown whichever back caliper it is that's locking up so he'll need to swap that too.

2000 civic si /rr disk 46210-s04-902
1996 civic dx /rr drum 46210-s04-902
by just using the si master (15/16") the brakes will work great... did a disk conversion back in 99 on a dx hatch and had problems did some research at work and found that the only difference was the master installed 99-00 si master and the brakes work awesome!!!
