Default EK owners! Need your help with climate control problems.

The climate control on my '00 DX has been acting up. Whenever I turn the fan speed know it doesn't do anything until it is at the maximal setting. Then the fan comes on full blast. Up until that point it doesn't do anything. Before the fan comes on there is an audible "click." Any ideas???

I hear that click right before I hit the maximum setting too. Did you mess with any of the wiring? Double check to see if everything is plugged in under the dash... ( behind the glove box and underneath the glove box/ passenger footwell) If everything is solid then maybe its a bad relay or just bad controls.

good luck

I tried two different sets of controls. Also I checked the connections. What next?

That "click" you descirbe is the fan's VTEC...see honda fan motors are just like the motor under the hood, they don't do anything until VTEC.

Hehe. Bump for you mang.

LOL. I mean is this a normal thing or what? Maybe the fan is on and I just can't hear it or feel it blowing? If a tree fall in the woods, and noone is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Well...I know the fan in my moms 99 EX doesn't REALLY push some air until it's on the maximum setting, but I do know that I can feel the air moving, and feel a difference in the temperature at all settings. I'm not sure about the "click". You could always hold something in front of the vents like a piece of paper and see if it moves to tell if there is airflow.

Come to think of it I know it doesn't push any air since I can't feel it and the windows were fogging today on the way to work until I turned it up. It was very minor fog and once turned up it went away instantly.

i dont know about on Honda A/C's, but when I used to do Subaru service, anytime a fan would not work on any settings other than high, it was a bad resistor. The click you are talking about is normal. I would call a Honda dealer, and ask a service advisor about the idea of it having a bad resistor. If he/she doesnt sound like he/she knows what she is talking about, or doesnt want to give up any info, call another dealer...someone will eventually help you out.

oh, and the resistor is not part of the controlls. changing the controlls will not nessecerrly fix this problem.

Default what he said

Yeah sounds like the blower motor resistor. Its usually mounted in the HVAC box under the dash. That is so that air flows over it to cool it. It should have about 4 wires going to it.

hope that helps
