Default EK HB D-Series Header ?uestions.

Okay, i've got a 96' civic cx hb, its got a stock D16Y7 from what i've heard/read is that the block is pretty much the same as a D16Y8, if this is true, then cant i just use any header that is designed for a Y8?

What do you guys think? thanks.

i thought that d-series headers were interchangable no matter 1.5 or 1.6??

because i have a d15 and i bought a header and on the box was posted d16 but it bolted right up no problem..

but dont take my word for it, correct me if im wrong

Yes you can, but if you are bolting an aftermarket header or even the stock y8 header onto the stock exhaust then it will eliminate the cat which is a part of your stock y7 header.

Yup you can, I've done it......... steps:

1. Get y8 aftermarket header (dc sports or something)
2. Get an 96-00 ex cat or 99-00 si cat
3. Install header and bolt cat to it........
4. Go to a muffler shop to have them cut your b-pipe to make it fit your new cat
5. lengthen your secondary 02 sensor harness so it reaches your o2 sensor in the correct position (make sure to solder your connections VERY IMPORTANT!)
6. Start pimpin it!

I think thats pretty much it. It's a simple install and easy to make it work if you do it right.

I don't think he'll be able to bolt up the cat with his current b-pipe. At least I couldn't. I had to go the muffler shop with the header almost right up to the b-pipe. then have the guy cut the b-pipe to fit the cat.

Eventually I just bought an exhaust system for an ex and then everything bolted right up.

Thats why I included step number 4........

Yup you will, I had the same problem, I bought an apexi n1 cat back before I did this conversion so i was stuck having to go to a muffler shop and chopping up my b-pipe. But after the muffler shop welds a new flange on your b-pipe, then it'll just be a bolt up affair after that.
